Storytelling: Profiles in Climate Resilience

LOCATION

TIMEFRAME

2024 - PRESENT

Recognizing that scientific facts and data alone are often insufficient to catalyze meaningful actions, we have deliberately harnessed the emotional resonance and human-centered power of real-life narratives to bring the climate-health nexus to life. By employing visual storytelling, particularly through storybooks, short films and documentaries, we aim to humanize climate data, translate abstract risks into lived realities, and foster empathy among decision-makers and the broader public. This approach allows us to amplify the voices of frontline communities, especially youth climate champions whose lived experiences and grassroots actions are often underrepresented in formal policy processes. Their stories not only reflect resilience and innovation but also serve as compelling evidence to shape climate-health discourse, programming, and policy across sectors.

In partnership with Forecasting Healthy Futures (FHF), we have utilized storytelling as a strategic advocacy tool through the Profiles in Climate Resilience documentary series. These stories have been showcased on global platforms including the FHF Annual Summits in Baku, Azerbaijan, and Brazil, and at national forums such as the Tanzania Health Summit through our Climate and Health Forums. Most notably, the series was also presented during the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) at the WHO Pavilion to steer a global discussion on the power of storytelling in climate and health advocacy. This multimedia advocacy effort is not only building visibility and urgency around the climate-health agenda but is also driving intergenerational dialogue and influencing multi-sectoral collaboration across health, environment, and development actors.
