A project aimed at helping young people deal with mental health issues as they transition from university to the market faced with a serious unemployment challenge. Many young people face anxiety, depression, stress, self isolation and loneliness because of financial problems and worries about their future. Some even turn to harmful behaviors or feel hopeless, suicidal thoughts and even suicide itself. To address this, UNI2Kitaa connects university students with experts who provide career guidance and strategies to help them prepare for life after university and restore hopes for the future.
The project is also creating UNI2Kitaa clubs in universities, where students can support each other and handle academic pressures, social expectations, and discrimination. These clubs help build self-esteem and provide a space for peer-to-peer support. The program also teaches important skills like entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and how to find global opportunities, so students are better prepared for life after graduation. Currently, UNI2Kitaa is being tested in three universities in northern Tanzania, with plans to expand to more universities and colleges across the country by April 2025.
The end goal of this project is to create a supportive environment for mental health among university students while transitioning from academic life.
